Woodville Gardens Uniting Church

Alteration to the existing church facilities BY KHAB ARCHITECTS

Over time the Woodville Gardens Uniting Church community had outgrown the existing walls of the church building, they were in need a of a building that would enable them to serve both their own community, and that of the wider Woodville Gardens community too. Utilised by many user groups, it was important to form connection, flow and open transition between spaces in order to strengthen the overlapping of seperate programs occuring at the one time, within the multipurpose space. It was clear from the get-go that this red brick shell was to become a permeable, approachable, welcoming hub for the community whilst keeping the worshiping congregation at the core. If you were to walk in today, you would find a ‘hub’ with community mindedness at the forefront, varied spaces stemming from the main worship space, linking together spaces for children, adults meeting, a kitchen and outdoor activities.
